NHS prodded top doctor to back unacceptable cancer care

A leading doctor, part of an NHS England group tasked with designing new child cancer standards, has told HSJ that adjustments to soften the projects were “insisted on” by its officials. Mr Nichols claims that officials undermined the need for an on-site intensive care unit in the cancer centre situated in the Royal Marsden Foundation Trust. Since more of the NHS is being privatised, this has been compensated by reduced quality of care and patient safety, evident in NHSE’s reluctance to work with clinicians to improve public cancer care.
