Votes from West Yorkshire health workers to started an indefinite strike from Monday 26 August are in the hundreds. The strike is against privatisation of the NHS. On 1 August, 300 Unison union members of Royal Bradford Infirmary and St Luke’s Hospital took strike action, following potential changes to their NHS wages and terms and conditions.
Hospital bosses said they could ensure safeguarding of NHS wages and terms and conditions 25 years after the jobs of porters, cleaners and other support staff are set to transferred to Bradford Healthcare Facilities Management – a private provider – on 1 October, However, at a meeting they had to admit to workers that they could not formally/ legally guarantee this safety net.
