Prison healthcare contract in capital goes to Care UK

Private provider Care UK has won a five-year contract for healthcare services at Wormwood Scrubs prison in West London. The firm will provide primary care, dentistry, optometry, physiotherapy and podiatry services. Mental health services will be subcontracted by Care UK to Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust.

Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust previously held the contract and mental health services were subcontracted to Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust. NHS England awarded the contract in December 2015 and it begins in April 2016. The initial contract period is five years, with an option to extend for two years; if the option is granted the contract will be £112m.
