PM to downplay ties to Donald Trump amid claims of ‘NHS sell-off’

Conservative strategists are hoping that an unpredictable Trump will not add any fuel to claims that the NHS is on the table for future post-Brexit trade negotiations.

Johnsons has also made clear he does not want any input from Trump in the election debate at a sensitive time in the campaign.

As Trump landed on Monday evening, Jeremy Corbyn wrote to the President to demand assurances that any trade deal would exclude reference to pharmaceuticals.

He also requested that the US drop their demand for “total market access” to UK public services and rule out the prospect of a mechanism whereby the UK government could be sued for protecting public services.
