The Guardian reports that government and opposition MPs are asking NHS England to halt the privatisation of cancer screening services in the Oxfordshire area, which doctors are warning will damage patients’ health.
The area’s MPS, Conservative, Labour and Liberal Democrat, have united in protest at the deal. The private firm InHealth has controversially been handed a contract to deliver positron emission computerised tomography (PET-CT) scanning in the Thames Valley.
PET-CT scanning plays a vital role in helping cancer specialists diagnose the disease, track whether treatment is proving successful at shrinking tumours and guide surgery.
